Congratulations To
Chef Maria Chaconas: Wins The 2009 Des Alpes Chocolate Fashion Show At This Year's Sweet Charity!
 
Congratulations to Chef Maria Chaconas on her interpretation of the classic Jules Verne novel: Around The World in Eighty Days at this year's 8th Sweet Charity Event. 
 
The model, Ana Maria Lawson, Miss Maryland Teen USA 2008, wore a hat made of Des Alpes chocolate and carried a hot air balloon also made of chocolate and colored Massa fondant. Her fondant pocket watches kept perfect time, as her white chocolate and fondant flags represented each country she visited. She also wore chocolate and sugar jewelry and a colored fondant necklace. A graduate of the pastry arts program at L'Academie de Cuisine, Maria Chaconas began her pastry career at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pentagon City. A love for creating delicious recipes and progressive designs led her to Fancy Cakes by Leslie in Bethesda, MD. Often asked, "Are you Leslie's daughter?," Maria has become an integral part of this award winning team.
 
Chef Maria will also receive various accolades, including recognition in DC Magazine, two complementary tickets to Sweet Charity 2010, and immense online exposure. She will reign as The Des Alpes Chocolate Winner for the entire year: an honor well-deserved!
 
A special thank you to all chefs who participated this year, making the event successful. Without all of you, this would not be possible.
