What is Sweet Charity?
Sweet Charity is a benefit organized to help The Heart of America Foundation’s® Books from the Heart℠ program. The program provides books for disadvantaged children with little or nothing to read. Sweet Charity was founded and is co-hosted by Albert Uster Imports, an importer and distributor of fine gourmet foods. The proceeds from ticket sales and silent auction will help replenish under-resourced libraries and classrooms in the greater Washington region.
Sweet Charity began as a small fundraiser in Chicago in 2003 with only a few local chefs and their guests. Since its inception, Sweet Charity has grown to become a successful fundraiser and a highly anticipated event, particularly well known for its Des Alpes Chocolate Fashion Show.
This past year, 2009, more than 60 participating chefs actively applied Albert Uster Imports chocolate to design fanciful chocolate fashions. Models and their clothing were decorated predominantly with chocolate, a metaphor for every child’s sweetness and innate potential.
